How to Play Carrom Online
Carrom is a classic flick-board game for two players. Pocket your own coins while covering the Queen, and win the board before your opponent — a match is decided over the best of three boards.
Objective
Win two boards out of three by pocketing all nine of your coins and correctly covering the Queen.
Setup
- The board starts with the red Queen in the center, surrounded by an inner ring of 6 and an outer ring of 12 coins — 9 white and 9 black, plus the Queen.
- One player plays white and shoots from the bottom baseline, the other plays black from the top baseline.
- A coin flip decides who breaks first each match; whoever wins a board breaks the next one.
How to Play, Step by Step
Place your striker
Position your striker anywhere along your own baseline before you shoot.
Flick to pocket a coin
Flick the striker to knock one of your own coins into a pocket.
Keep shooting if you scored
Pocketing one of your own coins lets you keep the strike and shoot again.
Cover the Queen
If you pocket the Queen, you must also pocket one of your own coins on that same stroke or the very next one, or she returns to the center.
Rules to Know
- Pocketing your own coin keeps the strike; pocketing nothing passes it to your opponent.
- Pocketing an opponent's coin counts for them, not you, and passes the strike — there's no way to take it back.
- A foul (pocketing the striker, or missing every coin entirely) sends any of your coins pocketed on that stroke back to the center and adds a penalty coin you owe.
- You can only clear your last coin and win the board once the Queen has been covered and settled — clearing early hands the board to your opponent instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I pocket the Queen?
You must pocket one of your own coins on that same stroke, or the very next one, to cover her — otherwise she goes back to the center.
What counts as a foul?
Pocketing your striker, or a stroke that doesn't touch any coin at all. A foul returns any coins you pocketed that stroke to the center and adds a coin you owe as a penalty.
How long is a match?
A match is best of three boards — first player to win two boards wins the match.
