How to Play Uno Online

Uno is a card game where 2–10 players race to empty their hand by matching the color or number of the card on top of the discard pile. Action cards — Skip, Reverse, Draw Two, and Wild — keep the turn order unpredictable.

Objective

Be the first player to play every card in your hand.

Setup

  • Each player starts with 7 cards.
  • One card is flipped face-up to start the discard pile.
  • The remaining cards form a face-down draw pile.

How to Play, Step by Step

1

Match the top card

Play a card from your hand that matches the color or number/symbol of the top discard.

2

No match? Draw one

If you can't play, draw a card from the pile. If it's playable, you may play it immediately; otherwise your turn ends.

3

Use action cards

Skip cards skip the next player, Reverse flips turn direction, Draw Two forces the next player to draw two and lose their turn, and Wild cards let you change the active color.

4

Call "Uno"

When you play your second-to-last card, you must call Uno — leaving you with one card left.

5

Empty your hand

The round ends the moment a player plays their last card.

Rules to Know

  • A card can be played if it shares the same color, number, or symbol as the top discard, or if it's a Wild card.
  • Wild Draw Four can typically only be played when you have no other playable card matching the current color.
  • Failing to call "Uno" before your hand is spotted with one card left can result in a penalty draw, depending on house rules.
  • Stacking Draw Two or Draw Four cards on top of each other is a common house rule, not part of the official rules.

Tips & Strategy

Hold onto Wild cards for when you're stuck on a color nobody else is playing.
Play number cards early and save action cards (Skip, Reverse, Draw Two) for when you're close to winning — they hit hardest late.
Track which colors opponents seem short on, and force that color when you can.
In 3+ player games, Reverse cards are powerful for skipping a leader who's about to go out.
