A drop-in voice room is for the moment you want to talk to someone and nobody is free to schedule a call.
Almost every voice app assumes an appointment. Somebody sends an invite, someone else accepts it, and there is a start time. That is fine for meetings and useless for the evening you just want a bit of conversation while you do the washing up.
Drop-in rooms work the other way round. The room is already open and people are already in it. You arrive muted, listen for a minute, and join in when you have something to say. When you are done, you close the tab and nobody asks where you went.
02
The room list shows which rooms have people in them right now, so you never walk into an empty one.
That is the whole signup. Allow the microphone once when your browser asks.
You start muted. Hold your push-to-talk key to speak, or switch to open mic if you have headphones on.

Push-to-talk means your mic is only live while you hold a key, which is ideal for a noisy room or a noisy house. Open mic keeps you live hands-free, which feels more like a real conversation but needs headphones to avoid echo.
You can switch between the two mid-conversation. The audio chat room guide explains the settings in more detail.
